Responsibilities

Act as the main legal liaison for the International Business function, delivering practical and solution-oriented guidance on commercial and operational matters.
Provide strategic input on complex transactions while ensuring adherence to relevant regulations (data protection, competition law, IP, trade compliance, etc.).
Partner with senior stakeholders to align commercial initiatives with corporate governance and risk controls.
Design and implement contract risk evaluation processes and escalation pathways.
Prepare, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including:
- Customer and service contracts
- Collaboration and partnership arrangements
- Technology and software licensing agreements
Oversee the full contract lifecycle: drafting, review, approval, execution, amendments, renewals, and termination.
Maintain contract templates, clause libraries, fallback positions, and internal playbooks.
Monitor contract obligations, milestones, and notice requirements.
Conduct regulatory research relevant to the telecommunications sector.
Assist with dispute management and coordinate with external counsel where necessary.
Ensure commercial terms (pricing, SLAs, indemnities, liability caps, penalties, termination clauses) are balanced and commercially sound.
Work closely with Finance to align contractual commitments with financial governance and revenue recognition standards.
Serve as a key point of contact for legal and commercial topics across Sales, Product, Marketing, Finance, and HR.
Support leadership in embedding legal considerations into strategic initiatives and product development discussions.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Law or equivalent professional experience
7+ years of legal experience, including substantial in-house corporate exposure within the telecommunications sector
Strong background in commercial contract drafting and negotiation
Sound knowledge of telecom regulatory frameworks in Japan and internationally
Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, high-pressure environment
Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation capabilities
High standards of integrity and professional ethics
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Preferred Background

Extensive experience in commercial law or contract governance within a corporate legal function or established law firm serving telecom clients
