SALARY

The salary range for this position is $96,767.80 to $ for Schedule A, and $96,767.80 to $ for Schedule

B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule

A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule

The Office of Professional and Governmental Services is seeking a highly motivated attorney to serve as Assistant Counsel for the Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct (ACJC). This is a challenging opportunity for an experienced attorney seeking a career in a fast‑paced environment.

REMOTE WORK

The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of the processes governing the Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct (ACJC) (per New Jersey Court Rule 2:15), as well as those New Jersey court rules applicable to judicial discipline.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of the provisions of the New Jersey Code of Judicial Conduct and any developing trends in judicial disciplinary case law.
  • Assist in prioritizing, coordinating, and conducting confidential investigations into allegations of judicial misconduct filed with the ACJC.
  • Work collaboratively with the Chief Investigator and in consultation with the Executive Director of the Office of Professional Services and Disciplinary Counsel in developing and implementing investigative plans, including but not limited to interviewing relevant individuals, reviewing court records/recordings/transcripts, acquiring documentary evidence, obtaining, and/or preparing affidavits/certifications/evidential documentation, and issuing subpoenas to produce documents.
  • Prepare detailed investigative memorandums for the ACJC analyzing the ethical issues implicated by the alleged misconduct under the canons of the Code of Judicial Conduct and any related factual or evidential issues of concern and make recommendations as to any future action or ultimate disposition.
  • Facilitate the orderly and efficient processing of ethics grievances, as needed, to include communicating with grievants and/or court personnel, as warranted.
  • Prepare memos to the ACJC analyzing docketed grievances under the applicable canons of the Code of Judicial Conduct and applicable case law.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare legal memorandum as needed.
  • Assist Disciplinary Counsel in the preparation of matters scheduled for formal proceedings.
