Associate Counsel–GEICO Staff Counsel

Defend lawsuits filed in New Jersey courts and other first party insurance defense. Position located in West Orange, NJ (Remote). Works closely with the Claims Department and GEICO's litigation team.

• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
• Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath
• Defend cases by trial or dispositive hearing on all matters assigned, as applicable

• 2–6+ years experience in litigation
  , preferably in insurance defense and/or personal injury
• Juris Doctor degree
• Admission to the New Jersey Bar
• Licensed in good standing to practice law in New Jersey and maintain CLE requirements
• Regular travel for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences
• Ability to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner
• Strong organization, priority setting, and multi-tasking skills; can follow complex instructions and resolve conflicts
• Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information

• Experience in civil litigation
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience
• Professional communication (in person, telephone, written/email)
