Job Overview
A law firm seeks a Senior Litigation Attorney in Paramus, New Jersey. This role is ideal for an attorney with 8 to 10 years of litigation experience, ready to manage complex civil cases from inception through trial and appeal. The successful candidate will handle a diverse caseload, including environmental, labor, commercial, and public entity defense matters, while mentoring junior attorneys and developing case strategies.
Duties- Independently manage complex civil litigation in New Jersey state and federal courts.
- Handle all litigation phases, including discovery, motion practice, trial, and appeal.
- Serve as first or second-chair trial attorney in various proceedings.
- Develop case strategies for environmental litigation under federal and state statutes.
- Manage labor and employment litigation, including ERISA and discrimination cases.
- Oversee commercial litigation involving contract and business disputes.
- Conduct and defend depositions of fact and expert witnesses.
- Draft and argue substantive motions in state and federal courts.
- Prepare and file appellate briefs in state and federal courts.
- Negotiate and draft settlement agreements; participate in mediations.
- Maintain client communication and provide strategic legal counsel.
- Mentor junior associates and supervise their work.
- 8 to 10 years of substantive civil litigation experience.
- Demonstrated trial experience, including first-chair or significant second-chair roles.
- Experience in New Jersey state and federal courts.
- Proven track record of managing complex litigation matters.
- Experience with appellate practice and drafting appellate briefs.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice law in the State of New Jersey.
- Admission to the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
- Superior legal research, writing, and analytical abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal practice management software.
- Experience with e-discovery tools and platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
