Employment Counsel (Insurance, Part‑Time, Remote, IN HOUSE)

$100.00/hr - $120.00/hr

Our client, a privately‑held leader in the U.S. insurance and retirement planning space known for its expansive distribution network and rapid growth through acquisitions, is seeking a part‑time Employment Counsel to support its Legal and Compliance team on employment law matters on a fully remote basis.

This role will provide strategic and practical legal guidance on HR‑related issues, policy development, and employment agreements, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise HR and leadership on employment law matters, including investigations and compliance issues.
  • Draft, review, and update HR policies, employee handbooks, and related documentation.
  • Prepare and negotiate separation agreements, retention agreements, and other employment‑related contracts.
  • Assist with internal investigations and provide recommendations for resolution.
  • Support overflow legal work related to employment and labor law.
  • Collaborate with HR, compliance, and business leaders to mitigate risk and ensure best practices.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; licensed to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 5+ years of experience in employment law, preferably in‑house or with a focus on insurance/financial services.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
