Hong Immigration Law in Minneapolis is looking for an Immigration Attorney with 3+ years of deportation defense, family, and humanitarian-based immigration experience.
The attorney in this role will be primarily focused on defensive asylum work, including merits hearings before the Immigration Court, as well as I-130s/AOS/IV processing/Waivers and T, VAWA, and U visas along with appeals and federal litigation. You’ll have some paralegal/legal assistant support in preparing cases but will be very hands on in case preparation.
You will be the first full‑time W‑2 employee, so you must be excited about being part of a growing firm. As the first full‑time team member, you’ll have a chance to make a huge impact. The firm owner is building an environment where team members can trust each other, openly share their opinions, and collaborate.
Key info about the role- Salary Range: $125K/year to $140K/year, depending on experience and demonstrated value. Bonus structure may be introduced as the firm grows.
- Work Location:
The role is initially 100% remote with the exception of any in‑person court hearings or USCIS appearances in Minnesota. (Once a new office is established, the role will likely transition into 1‑2 days in office per week based out of the Twin Cities). Open to considering candidates outside the Twin Cities area, but you must be able to attend court dates and USCIS appointments in Minnesota (with the firm covering travel expenses). - Language/J.D./Bar Admission:
Fluency/professional proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred. Seeking candidates with a J.D. who are licensed to practice in Minnesota or another state. - Benefits: PTO, paid holidays, sick leave, and CLE and bar dues coverage. The firm is exploring a benefits program including possible 401(k) as well as health insurance–but health insurance and 401(k)/retirement plan will very likely not be in place when the candidate initially joins.

In this role, you will:
- Independently manage asylum and removal defense cases —including handling briefs, witness prep, country condition reports, and individual and master hearings.
- Manage I-130s/AOS/IV processing, asylum, N-400s, waivers, U visas, VAWAs, and T Visas as well as appeals and federal litigation.
- Manage client communications.
