Associate Counsel – New York

GEICO is hiring an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in New York courts and other first‑party insurance defense.

• Research applicable laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions, examinations before trial, examinations under oath, and defense by trial or dispositive hearing on all matters assigned.

• 2 to 6 years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury.
• Juris Doctor degree.
• Admission to the New York Bar and license to practice law in good standing, with all required continuing legal education.
• Strong written documentation skills and ability to produce clear, concise professional written matter.
• Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, and manage multiple priorities.
• Travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance‑defense related litigation experience.
• Professional communication skills in person, telephone, and written correspondence.

Remote. Must be able to travel to New York City venues (Manhattan, Staten Island, Bronx) and other locations as required.

Annual salary range $118,900 to $186,550. Final offer based on scope, experience, education, training, work location, market, and business considerations.
