In-House Trial Attorney, (Remote, Contract role

We are seeking a Legal Counsel to work in the Houston, TX area. This role offers the opportunity to strategize cases, exercise sound business judgment, and operate with a sense of urgency. If you have relevant experience and can quickly assume responsibilities, this opportunity may be for you.
Position Responsibilities- Handle legal work on assigned cases.
- Aggressively pursue files referred to Staff Counsel by the Claims Department.
- Create and maintain a documented strategy for case handling, including a synopsis of intangible factors such as judge, plaintiff attorney, aggravating factors, etc.
- Develop, organize, and maintain document files consisting of pleadings, briefs, and memorandums.
- Prepare and submit timely status reports to claims handlers on all significant activities as they occur, but not at greater than 60‑day intervals.
- Ensure that all files are properly documented and organized.
- Provide prompt and timely responses to all telephone calls and correspondence.
- Utilize case‑management software to maintain notes, diary, calendar, billing, etc., on cases assigned to Staff Counsel and in accordance with established company operating guidelines, procedures and legal and ethical requirements/guidelines.
- 3+ years of experience as a trial attorney.
- Experience with insurance defense work is preferred.
- Member of the State Bar, maintaining all necessary licensing and continuing education requirements.
- Will be required to travel as needed.
- The selected candidate is required to work remotely and reside in the Houston, TX area.
