POSITION SUMMARY:

Jackson Walker, the largest law firm in Texas, has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for a Real Estate Paralegal in our Houston office.

The Real Estate Paralegal assists attorneys in all phases of commercial real estate transactions. Specific duties may vary based on the nature and complexity of each transaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Transaction Coordination and Due Diligence
  • Meet with attorneys regarding transactions and assist with gathering pertinent information.
  • Draft transaction checklists and schedules of deadlines associated with closings.
  • Analyze and summarize due diligence documents, including environmental reports.
  • Identify issues, anticipate potential obstacles, and assist with troubleshooting.
Title, Survey and UCC Matters
  • Review title commitments, surveys, zoning regulations, rights-of-way, easements, and related documents.

  • Coordinate with title companies regarding document requests, title matters, and related transaction needs.
  • File amendments to recorded instruments and obtain appropriate endorsements to title policies in connection with those amendments.
  • Perform and analyze Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) searches.
Document Preparation and Administrative Support
  • Organize entity documentation, including partnership agreements, articles of incorporation, and bylaws; review documents for completeness and index them for the file.
  • Order certificates of existence and good standing for entities and troubleshoot issues identified through the process.
  • Prepare initial drafts of real estate-related documents, including deeds, bills of sale, and releases of lien.
  • Proofread documentation and confirm the inclusion and completion of appropriate exhibits.
  • Follow up to obtain executed documents and title policies with required endorsements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university required. In lieu of the bachelor’s degree, the Firm may consider a paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program or ten (10) or more years of relevant industry experience, including substantive paralegal experience performing at least 80% of the types of work and projects assigned to this position at the Firm.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a law firm or professional services office.
  • Ability to read, write, proofread, and edit routine law-office correspondence and legal documents for punctuation, grammar, spelling, typographical accuracy, and completeness.
  • Ability to perform routine arithmetic calculations, verify calculations on forms and documents, and maintain accurate records and filing systems.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them accurately under time constraints.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions from a diverse group of clients, attorneys, and business professionals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to provide information in person, by email, and by telephone with courtesy, professionalism, and tact.
WORK CONDITIONS:

This position operates in a typical professional office environment using standard office equipment and technology environment with limited exposure to excessive noise or temperature variations. The position may occasionally require more than 40 hours per week or irregular hours to perform essential duties. Occasional remote work during time periods agreed upon with supervising attorneys may be permitted when coordinated in advance and responsibilities are completed timely.
