Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (MMLA) is seeking a rising 2L or 3L law student to work in our Minneapolis office. If you're ready to contribute your skills and compassion to meaningful work, we invite you to explore this exciting opportunity.

The successful candidate will work approximately 15 hours per week. Work will be completed in person at one of our community clinics on Mondays, with a hybrid work model offered for other work hours, allowing for a mix of in-office and remote work. We are hiring for at least the Fall semester, with opportunities to work over winter break and continue through the Spring semester.

The Regional Hub for New Americans The Hub is a collaborative partnership of five immigration legal services providers in Minnesota:
The Advocates for Human Rights (AHR), Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota (ILCM), Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (MMLA), Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services (SMRLS), and Volunteer Lawyers Network (VLN).Together, these organizations are expanding access to immigration legal services throughout Minnesota through legal access points, education and community outreach, rapid-response triage, and coordinated intake and referral services.

Immigration Law Project (ILP)
The Immigration Law Project provides legal representation to clients in a full range of immigration matters, including removal and deportation defense, adjustment of status, citizenship, and VAWA-based cases, including U and T visas. This position will focus specifically on work completed in collaboration with the Regional Hub for New Americans.

Primary Responsibilities
• Apply the principles of MMLA's Racial Justice Values Statement in all interactions.
• Interview clients and prepare immigration applications. Particular focus will be on intake screening and preparation of pro se asylum applications and other limited legal services for New Americans at the Waite House Community Clinic on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• Conduct legal research.
• Investigate and research changing immigration policies and their impact on the communities we serve.
• Attend monthly virtual Hub Consultation Clinics, as well as other pop-up clinics as schedules allow, to screen community members for immigration relief.
• Attend Legal Orientation Program (LOP) outreach and screening days at ICE detention facilities in Minnesota.

Required Qualifications
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

• Excellent attention to detail, interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills.
