Senior Paralegal (Licensing & Regulatory Support) – Legal Work Supporting the State Pay Rate: $60/hr

Long-Term Temp up to 1 Year

We are hiring a Paralegal with at least 5 years of experience to support a state agencies responsible for licensing and regulatory oversight of numerous professional and occupational boards and programs. This is an excellent opportunity for a legal professional who enjoys regulatory work, legislative research, and administrative law in a fast-paced environment. This position pays $60/hr and is anticipated to last up to 12 months.

This is a high-level paralegal role supporting attorneys and agency leadership on legislative research, rule making initiatives, compliance activities, public records requests, administrative complaints, and regulatory matters. Candidates must have 5+ years of solid paralegal experience and be comfortable handling complex legal and administrative work independently.

Important Notes:
  • While this is a work from home position, candidates must reside in Maine
  • Must be able to physically pick up company equipment in Augusta
  • Occasional attendance at virtual hearings and board meetings may be required
  • Background check required
Typical Daily Duties:
  • Conduct legislative research and summarize legislative history
  • Draft responses to Freedom of Access Act requests and perform initial confidentiality reviews
  • Compile and prepare rule making documentation in compliance with the Maine Administrative Procedure Act
  • Review criminal background check results and obtain additional documentation from courts and criminal justice agencies
  • Summarize complaint case files and prepare memoranda for board and program review
  • Draft letters of guidance, consent agreements, and preliminary denial letters for attorney review
  • Assist with interstate compact implementation, mandatory reporting requirements, ADA compliance initiatives, and administrative complaint processes
  • Attend virtual administrative hearings and board meetings as needed
What We’re Looking For:
  • 5+ years of professional paralegal experience required
  • Strong knowledge of legal principles, legal research, statutes, regulations, and administrative processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft professional legal correspondence and memoranda
  • Ability to interpret statutes, regulations, and case law
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Team-oriented professional willing to support attorneys, leadership, and agency staff as needed
