Laird Cowley, PLLC, a law firm serving clients throughout the Mountain West and beyond, with offices in Missoula and Helena, Montana, seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our busy litigation team.

The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive support to attorneys throughout all stages of litigation, including legal research, document preparation, case organization, and case management. This position requires exceptional organizational and time-management skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage multiple cases and competing priorities.

The successful candidate will possess well-developed written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, and a strong understanding of legal procedures and litigation practices. Experience in or familiarity with commercial litigation, insurance litigation, personal injury litigation, construction litigation, and professional negligence is highly valued.

The Paralegal will play an integral role in supporting our attorneys and clients and ensuring the efficient, organized, and effective operation of our litigation practice.

Responsibilities
  • Review, analyze, prepare, and manage legal documents and case materials, including pleadings, contracts, correspondence, discovery, and other litigation documents, ensuring accuracy, organization, and compliance with applicable laws and court requirements.
  • Organize and maintain case files and electronic records, ensuring documents are accurately filed, up to date, and readily accessible while managing a high-volume caseload.
  • Assist attorneys with client and witness interviews, including gathering, organizing, and documenting information relevant to case development.
  • Communicate and interact professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and other legal professionals, serving as a knowledgeable and professional representative of the firm.
  • Provide comprehensive administrative and litigation support to attorneys, including coordinating meetings, conference calls, depositions, and court hearings; maintaining calendars; and monitoring critical deadlines and case-related dates.
  • Conduct legal research and identify relevant statutes, regulations, case law, and legal precedents to support attorneys in case preparation and strategy.
  • Collaborate closely with attorneys, paralegals, and other team members to promote effective communication, efficient workflow, and consistent, high-quality client service.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Three or more years of paralegal experience, or equivalent legal experience working under the supervision of an attorney, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Paralegal or in a similar legal support role, preferably within a law firm or litigation environment.
  • Strong understanding of legal terminology, litigation procedures, document review, and case management.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and effectively manage multiple cases, projects, and deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys, paralegals, and other members of the legal team.
  • Proficiency with legal research tools, case management software, Microsoft Office, and other legal technology is preferred.
  • Completion of a Paralegal Studies program and/or paralegal certificate is preferred.

Work Arrangement
  • Laird Cowley, PLLC is open to considering in-office, hybrid, or remote work arrangements for the right candidate, depending on experience, qualifications, and the needs of the litigation team.
  • Availability to work an 8-hour daytime shift, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time.
