Job SummaryA process server is responsible for delivering legal documents, such as subpoenas, summonses, complaints, and court orders, to individuals or organizations involved in legal proceedings. They ensure that these documents are served in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the legal process.
Key Responsibilities- Serve Legal Documents:
Deliver legal documents to the intended recipients, ensuring that the documents are served in a lawful and appropriate manner. - Locate Recipients:
Use investigative techniques to locate and identify the individuals or entities to whom the documents need to be served. This may involve researching public records, conducting interviews, or surveillance. - Record Service Details:
Maintain accurate and detailed records of all service attempts, including dates, times, locations, and the outcome of each attempt. - Ensure Compliance:
Ensure that all service procedures adhere to local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Familiarize yourself with specific legal requirements in your jurisdiction. - Maintain Confidentiality:
Handle sensitive information and documents with the utmost discretion and confidentiality to protect the integrity of the legal process. - Communication:
Communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, and other legal professionals regarding the status of service, any issues or obstacles encountered, and the successful completion of service. - Testify in Court:
If required, be prepared to testify in court regarding the service of legal documents to confirm their validity. - Maintain Professionalism:
Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance while representing the legal process server profession.
- High school diploma or equivalent; some positions may require a bachelor's degree in legal studies or a related field.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to the service of legal documents.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a diverse range of individuals.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Discretion and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, as serving documents may require travel.
- Pass a civil and criminal background check.
- Pass a 10-panel drug screening.
- Have a smartphone.
- Have a computer and printer.
- Be responsible and have a desire to complete assignments.
- Process servers often work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the schedules of the individuals being served.
- MUST HAVE DEPENDABLE TRANSPORTATION.

- This is a remote position.
