Job Description & How to Apply Below
Full-Time, non-exempt |
Location:
Hybrid - San Diego (regular in-office days required; some in-person errands downtown)
About Equity Legal LLPEquity Legal LLP has been an established presence in San Diego real estate law for over a decade. Homeowners, investors, brokers, and referring attorneys throughout the county bring us their property disputes and complex transactions. We handle both sides of real estate law: litigation from pre-demand through trial, and the purchases, leases, and agreements that keep our clients' properties moving forward.
We are actively modernizing how a real estate law firm operates. We are hiring a Legal Assistant / Legal Secretary to be the reliable, always-reachable center of our day-to-day: the person who gets the filing out today, keeps the attorneys' calendars true, and makes sure nothing that came in this morning is still sitting there this afternoon.
What You Will Own
• Attorney calendars and scheduling: booking and confirming client calls, consultations, opposing-counsel calls, mediations, and hearings; calendaring ex parte and hearing dates with correct notice; rescheduling cleanly when the day changes.
• Court filings and service: preparing and e-filing routine documents (Info Track / One Legal, San Diego Superior), proofs of service, jury fees, courtesy copies; tracking and fixing court rejections the same day.
• Incoming mail and documents: picking up mail from our downtown San Diego office, logging scanned mail, filing it to the correct Clio matter and folder using our naming convention, and flagging anything with a deadline, hearing date, or response date to the responsible attorney the same morning.
• In-person errands: handling recordings at the County Recorder, courtesy-copy drop-offs, and the occasional courthouse or notary run. You will need reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
• Client and vendor follow-up: chasing signatures, documents, and installment payments; coordinating with mediators, process servers, court reporters, and escrow; keeping the client informed so the attorney doesn't have to.
• Document preparation: putting letters on letterhead, proofreading, assembling exhibits, and turning attorney notes into clean correspondence.
• Task hygiene: keeping Clio tasks current, running a morning check of what's due, and leaving an end-of-day handoff note so nothing falls through overnight.
What We Are Looking For
•
Experience:
2+ years in a California law firm, litigation preferred. Real estate exposure is a plus, not a requirement.
• Same-day mindset: you measure turnaround in hours, not days, and you tell us early when something can't go out today.
• Composure: calm and organized around court deadlines and a ringing phone.
• Accuracy: dates, names, and case numbers right the first time; you proofread your own work.
• Communication: clear, professional written English on the phone and in email. Spanish is a plus.
Technology and Modern Workflows We run on Clio Manage, Info Track, Google Workspace, Slack, and AI-assisted workflows that are actively integrated into our daily practice. You do not need to be a technologist, but you do need to be tech-forward, open to learning new platforms, and comfortable working alongside software designed to eliminate repetitive administrative work.
What We Offer
• Compensation: $60,000 - $75,000 per year, depending on experience, paid semi-monthly.
• Benefits: health coverage (medical and dental), a 401(k), and paid time off.
• Flexibility: hybrid schedule - work from home part of the week, with regular in-office days and in-person tasks downtown as the caseload requires.
• Growth: a clear path to a paralegal role for the right person. We promote from inside as the firm grows.
• A modern firm: you're joining as we invest in new tools and a bigger vision for the practice. The person in this seat helps shape it.
To Apply Submit your resume and complete the short screening questions on the application form. The first question (a note describing a software error you caught, and a filing or document you got out the same day) is required; applications without it will not be reviewed.
