Role Description

The Deputy Prosecutor is responsible for handling criminal cases from charging through disposition in Madison County courts. Day-to-day work includes reviewing police reports, filing charges, conducting legal research, preparing motions and trial documents, and representing the State in hearings, trials, and plea negotiations. The role involves regular communication with law enforcement, defense counsel, court staff, and crime victims, as well as providing clear legal guidance and maintaining accurate case files.

This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Anderson, IN, with primary in-office duties at the Madison County Prosecutor's Office and some flexibility for work from home as approved.

Qualifications
  • Strong foundation in Law and Criminal Law, with the ability to interpret statutes, case law, and court rules.
  • Knowledge of Criminal Justice principles and procedures, including investigation, evidence handling, and trial practice.
  • Ability to provide clear, well-reasoned Legal Advice to law enforcement and other stakeholders.
  • Basic Accounting or financial literacy skills to review restitution claims, financial records, or economic crime evidence.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in Indiana, or eligibility for admission within a defined timeframe.
  • Demonstrated ethical judgment, professionalism, and commitment to fair and impartial prosecution.
  • Strong written and verbal advocacy skills, including courtroom presentation and legal drafting.
  • Ability to manage a substantial caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet court deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort working in a hybrid setting, using legal and office technology securely from both office and home locations.
  • Prior experience in criminal litigation, prosecution, or public sector legal work is preferred but not required.
