the Labor & Employment Practice

Musick Peeler’s Labor & Employment Department advises and represents employers on a broad range of workplace and employment matters. The practice combines proactive counseling and compliance work with sophisticated litigation, helping clients navigate day-to-day employment issues, minimize risk, and effectively resolve disputes when they arise.

The group advises employers on matters including wage and hour compliance, workplace policies and employee handbooks, personnel decisions, leaves and accommodations, workplace investigations, and state and federal employment requirements. The team also represents employers in complex litigation involving discrimination, harassment and retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour claims, PAGA and class actions, as well as proceedings before state and federal administrative agencies.

This role will focus on the complex litigation work of the department.

Attorneys in the practice work with a diverse range of private and public employers across industries, providing practical, business-focused advice while handling sophisticated and often high-stakes matters. The group offers associates the opportunity to gain meaningful experience across both counseling and litigation and to work closely with experienced attorneys on a broad range of employment matters. For more experienced attorneys,
the group offers the opportunity to lead matters on all types of L&E work for a diverse client base or to be supported in bringing in your own business.

The Opportunity

Musick Peeler is seeking an attorney with 5+ years of experience to join our Labor & Employment Department. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex litigation matters and to take on meaningful responsibility as part of a collaborative team.

A successful candidate will be motivated, capable of running cases (with partner input, as needed) including the responsibility to interact with opposing counsel and our clients, draft and argue motions, conduct depositions and other discovery, participate in trials, and other important tasks. The candidate must be a driven team player with excellent litigation, writing and persuasive speaking skills, and exceptional research skills.

The candidate should also be detail-oriented and highly organized with a solid work ethic.

The types of cases the successful candidate will work on shall encompass a broad range of individual FEHA and wrongful termination matters to class action and/or PAGA matters.

Experience in advice and counseling, investigations, revising handbooks and other policies, and similar work is a plus.

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • JD or foreign equivalent from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar
  • 5+ years of relevant L&E litigation practice experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic, professionalism, and commitment to providing excellent client service

This position may be fully remote, provided the candidate resides in and is licensed to practice in California. A hybrid schedule is also available for those who prefer a combination of in-office and remote work.

  • The firm offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package, including eligibility for a year-end bonus.

The salary range for this position is $180,000+ depending on experience.
