HIRING RANGE: $32.36 - $35.96/hour

The work schedule for this position will be primarily in-person with limited remote work opportunity after successful completion of the probationary period. Remote work opportunities are subject to change based on business needs.

The Investigative Technicians serves in a non-sworn capacity as administrative and technical support to an assigned division within the Police Department and aids with investigations, preparation of case filings, and evidentiary exhibits. The Investigative Technicians are responsible for maintaining working knowledge of police informational databases, audio and visual recording systems, computer software, crime scene evidence collection, evidence preservation, and courtroom display for the purpose of enhancing investigations while alleviating detective workload.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City’s discretion. Employees must be able to perform the essential duties of this job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Takes initial reports by interviewing victims, witnesses, by obtaining the facts concerning the case and conducts some follow-up investigations.
  • Assists with construction of case files for presentation to the District Attorney’s Office (DA).
  • Duplicates various electronic media for distribution to the DA’s Office for filing and discovery purposes. This includes copies of reports, interviews, copies of photographs, and copies of photographic contact sheets.
  • Processes, seizes, and books physical evidence in accordance with department policies and procedures and rules of criminal evidence.
  • Reviews files and completes necessary supplemental reports on cases.
  • Receives subpoenas to testify in court and may be required to do so regarding case investigations.
  • Conducts computer work to include query and entry on the CCIC System, criminal histories, warrants, report writing, evidence and case management systems, DMV query and request for photographs, and send teletypes to other jurisdictions in state and out of state requesting information.
  • Contacts other law enforcement agencies to collaborate or provide information.
  • Supports sworn personnel in the execution of search warrants, photographing and documenting evidence collection on scene.
  • Other duties as assigned, specific to the unit of assignment.

Education and Experience
  • Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience:

    One or more-years administrative experience. Experience in the police environment is a preferred qualification. Bi-lingual (Spanish-speaking) is a desired qualification.
Certification/Licenses/Specialized Training
  • Driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.
  • Ability to be NCIC/CCIC certified within six-months of hire.
