Under the general supervision of the Special Investigator Supervisor, performs statewide, national, and international investigations of highly complex nature involving multiple criminal offenses, working with a high degree of independence. Reviews allegations, complaints or other information to determine criminal offenses that may have been committed. Conducts investigations, including but not limited to; theft, fraud, embezzlement, forgery, conspiracy, fraudulent schemes, political corruption, etc.

Confers with prosecuting attorneys regarding progress of investigations, quality of case files and evidence, drafts subpoenas, warrants, etc. Prepares affidavits to obtain search warrants, arrest warrants, wiretaps, physical characteristic court orders. Background check and In-state travel is required.

This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (Three (3) days per week in the office/hoteling).

• Reviewing information and documents; analyzing data, planning case strategy, maintaining case files and evidence; preparing case reports.
• Interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects on the phone or in person. Travel as required, including state, interstate and international that may require overnight stay. Engage in undercover investigation operations, conducting surveillance of case suspects, investigative activity with other local, state and federal agencies.
• Preparing and serving search warrants; conducting searches; seizing and securing evidence. Serving arrest warrants; physically arresting suspects and booking suspects into jail.

• Pertinent State and Federal motor vehicle laws, rules and regulations.
• Modern law enforcement methods, best practices and procedures.
• Search and Seizure, rules of evidence and custody of prisoners.
• Defensive tactics.
• First Aid, CPR.
• Court systems, procedures and protocols.
• Activity reporting and accounting procedures established for the work system.
• Principles of report writing.
• Have previously served as a certified peace officer in Arizona, another state, or federal agency, and meet all of the minimum qualifications for certification as an Arizona Peace Officer.

• Interpreting relevant State and Federal motor vehicle laws, rules and regulations.
• Eliciting factual information and drawing valid conclusions.
• Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with staff members and the general public.
• Use and care of firearms.
• Operate police equipment in emergency situations.
• Exercise discretion in use of force.
• Verbal and written communication, writing clear and concise reports.
• Problem solving and using good judgement.
• Have completed the basic and advanced training that demonstrates substantial comparability to the Arizona basic course.
