The Public Utility Commission is looking for a highly responsible and motivated attorney in our Office of Administrative Law Judge.
DESCRIPTION OF WORKThe Mediator manages a portfolio of assigned cases, facilitates resolution, and reviews appropriate pleadings to determine which cases are appropriate for the mediation program. Assignments involve working independently and, where necessary, directly with the Mediation Coordinator. As a more experienced mediator, you will be assigned mediation cases that involve more complex issues and multiple parties. Such work requires the exercise of independent judgment and minimum supervision.
Supervision is received from the Mediation Coordinator, who is responsible for the operation of the Mediation Unit and the Mediation Processes.
- Case Review:
Determine which cases qualify for mediation and initiate interim orders as needed - Legal Analysis:
Evaluate legal principles and research laws, regulations, and policies tied to mediation and public utility matters - Mediation Work:
Conduct mediation sessions and assess legal and non-legal viewpoints to support resolution - Program Support:
Create forms and letters with the Mediation Coordinator and assist in training staff on mediation procedures - Policy Input:
Recommend policy changes based on independent research and review training materials - Stakeholder Communication:
Arrange conferences, interviews, and virtual meetings using Microsoft Teams
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework:
Part-time work from home (telework) may be a potential feature of this position. The successful candidate is required to report to the headquarters worksite daily, unless the employee meets eligibility requirements and telework has been approved. Management may discontinue any telework arrangement at any time, for any reason. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection.
If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office.- To be eligible to participate in telework, the employee's alternate (telework) worksite must meet the following requirements:
- Within a reasonable travel distance of headquarters; and
- Within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Salary:

- Two years of professional legal experience and graduation from an accredited school of law; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants must be certified for admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and must maintain membership on a continuous basis during employment.
