We provide specialized and efficient legal services in a boutique law firm environment through the complementary practice areas and collaboration of the firm’s attorneys.
Position Overview
Milligan Lawless is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support a subset of attorneys within our established law firm. This position is ideal for someone with a strong administrative background, litigation exposure, employment law exposure or prior legal assistant experience who is looking to continue growing within a professional legal environment.
Candidates with 2-5 years minimum experience in employment law or litigation are encouraged to apply. We are also open to candidates with strong organizational, communication, and technical skills who are eager to learn and develop within the legal field.
Position Responsibilities
- Assisting attorneys with day-to-day administrative and legal support tasks
- Docketing and calendaring deadlines and appointments
- Answering and directing phone calls
- Handling new client inquiries and intake coordination
- Opening and closing client matters
- Preparing, editing, and formatting legal and administrative documents
- Supporting general office workflows and attorney organization
- Preparing documents for state and federal court filings, including discovery requests and responses, pleadings, motions, correspondence, and related filings
- E-filing in various state and federal courts, including trial and appellate courts
- Creating and maintaining electronic client files
- Preparing and processing correspondence, memoranda, and complex legal documents
- Maintaining client files utilizing the firm’s document management system
- Assisting with billing, travel coordination, and expense reimbursements
- Interacting effectively, courteously, and professionally with clients, attorneys, staff, and peers
- Performing additional administrative and legal support functions as needed
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Strong administrative, organizational, and time management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe document editing
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail and follow-through
- Prior legal assistant, litigation, or employment law experience is a plus, but not required

We are looking for someone who is dependable, adaptable, tech-comfortable, and willing to learn. The right candidate does not necessarily need extensive legal experience if they bring strong administrative abilities, professionalism, initiative, and a willingness to grow within the role.

This is a Monday through Friday position with standard hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role follows a 37.5-hour work week.
This position is primarily in-office to support collaboration, training, and workflow coordination. However, there may be potential for one work-from-home day once the candidate has developed a strong understanding of the role and workflow expectations.
