IP Docketing Specialist (Trademark, Copyright, & Advertising) Cooley is seeking an IP Docketing Specialist (Trademark, Copyright, & Advertising) to join the IP Services team.
Hybrid Schedule Philosophy:As part of the Cooley culture, we recognize and appreciate the value of being together, in person, to build comradery with others in the office and to be a contributing member of the Cooley office. However, we also appreciate the benefits and flexibility that come from remote working. As such, the default assumption for employees and partners is a hybrid schedule: some in-office presence and some work from home days.
Employees on a hybrid work schedule must work from their regular state of residence during hybrid remote days and are expected to be within a commutable distance of a Cooley office. (Department director or manager will provide direction on your schedule and any in-office expectations).
The IP Docketing Specialist is responsible for efficient and accurate completion of IP (Patent/TCA) docketing functions in accordance with firm and IP practice procedures and policies. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Position responsibilities:- Accurately and reliably perform daily docketing and/or de-docketing functions of US and foreign IP matters firm wide, processing IP correspondence to and from clients, foreign associates, and government IP offices with an emphasis on attention to detail
- Regularly communicate with practitioners, paralegals and specialists to ascertain actions being taken
- Provide superior customer service to the IP Services group by keeping practitioners, paralegals and specialists advised of matters arising with applications/registrations
- Review PTO filings and process electronic filing notices from the USPTO
- Navigate various US and Foreign sites, including but not limited to USPTO PAIR, WIPO, EPO, etc.
- Assist practitioners, paralegals and specialists with obtaining data, reports, and charts from the IP Management System (IPMS)
- Confirm that all critical deadlines have been handled appropriately, following up as needed, and proactively seek guidance for any unresponsive client teams
- Follow second eye policy and other quality checks to ensure accuracy
- Keep current with regulatory changes in IP prosecution
- Required:
After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications - Available to work overtime, as required
- 3+ years of relevant IP experience
- Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree - Previous law firm experience
- Experience researching IP status and history in PTO databases, including USPTO systems (TSDR, TESS, l), WIPO Madrid Monitor, the EUIPO eSearch, TMview, as well as public databases in other jurisdictions
- Possess working knowledge and keep abreast of rules according to USPTO procedures, 37 C.F.R., the Trademark Manual of Examining Procedure (TMEP)
- Ability to work independently and under pressure/tight time constraints
- Aptitude for multi-tasking
- Creative and entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving and process improvement

Compensation and benefits:The expected hourly pay range for this position with a work schedule of 40 hours per week is $39.50 - $58.00 ($82,160 - $120,640 annually). Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
