80years, we have made it our mission to help individuals and businesses find the right lawyer to meet their legal needs. Established in 1946, the New York City Bar Legal Referral Service (LRS) is the oldest lawyer referral service in New York State, and the first one in New York City approved by the American Bar Association (ABA).Reporting to the Supervising Attorney, the Referral Counselor willjoin a team of counselors,contributingtoour longstanding commitment and service.

This position does notprovideany legal advice or represent clients in any capacity.
- Respond to high volume of calls and emails from the general public
- Triage legal issues and direct clients toparticipatinglawyers and other legal resources
- Provide basic legal information to the public
- Assisting the department with othersecondaryduties,such asassistingwith recruiting lawyers to join the service,lightresearchfor our legaltopicswebpages,assistingwithgrass roots marketing and recruiting research,public relation sat public events,etc.
- Astronginterest inhelping the public byworking inalegal,nonprofit setting
- A learning mindset andcuriosityabout topics thatimpactthe profession, law, and helping the public,such aschanges tothe law,nonprofits’strategic use oftechnology toboost efficiencies inprovidinghelptothepublic,andevolvingdelivery of legal services models
General knowledge of New York law and legal resources available to New Yorkers, preferred - Bilingualfluencyinthe English language (spoken and written),and Spanish language(spoken required, written preferred)
- At least one year of employment in a legal environment/organization
- Excellent phone manner, customerserviceand written/verbal communication skills
- Must be able to deal effectively with challenging individuals
- Ability to staycalm in stressful situations
- Abilitytousemultiple windows and/or computer programs simultaneouslyandefficiently
- Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office 365products(principally,Outlook, Word, One Drive,and Teams),Zoom,VOIP orsoft-phone technologies, and basic web-based programs.
Familiarity with or ability to use other O365 apps with little training(such as SharePoint, Excel, One Note, and CoPilot) wouldbe aplus. - This position is open to thoseresidingin the Mountain, Central, and Eastern time zones of the U.S.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S.
Starting compensation is $30.22 - $32.97 per hour (based on experience), which is equivalent to an annualized salary range of $55,000 - $60,000 for full-time employment (generally 35hours per week).
