Our client is seeking an experienced Insurance Defense Attorney with at least 4 years of insurance defense experience to join its team in a fully remote capacity.
The ideal candidate will have a strong civil litigation background and experience representing insurance carriers and/or insured parties. Experience in general liability, personal injury, professional liability, medical malpractice, premises liability, coverage, or other insurance-related litigation is welcome.
Attorneys in this practice are expected to think strategically about each matter — balancing early resolution and cost-effective defense with aggressive litigation and trial preparation when necessary.
Responsibilities- Manage insurance defense matters from assignment through resolution
- Review claim files and relevant legal authority
- Evaluate liability, damages, coverage, and potential exposure
- Develop defense strategies tailored to each matter
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, briefs, and other litigation documents
- Conduct and defend depositions
- Participate in hearings, mediations, conferences, and trial preparation
- Communicate with insurance carriers, insureds, experts, and opposing counsel
- Pursue appropriate opportunities for early resolution
- Prepare matters for trial when settlement is not appropriate
- Independently manage deadlines and an active caseload
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Admission to the West Virginia Bar
- 4+ years of insurance defense experience
- Strong civil litigation background
- Experience working with insurance carriers and/or insured parties
- Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to independently manage litigation matters
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment
