Role Description

This is a contract role for a Freelance Licensed Court Reporter in a hybrid arrangement based in Washington state with some work-from-home flexibility. The court reporter will capture and preserve the record of depositions, hearings, and other legal proceedings, both in-person and remotely, ensuring accurate verbatim transcripts. Day-to-day responsibilities include attending scheduled proceedings, swearing in witnesses, taking down testimony using approved reporting methods, and producing timely, formatted transcripts in accordance with industry and company standards.

The role also involves coordinating with attorneys, staff, and schedulers; managing deadlines; and handling confidential information with discretion. The contractor is expected to maintain professional equipment, stay current with reporting technology, and comply with all licensing and notary requirements.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated proficiency in court reporting, including real-time reporting and accurate capture of legal proceedings.
  • Strong transcription skills with excellent grammar, spelling, and attention to detail in producing final transcripts.
  • Experience working in court proceedings and depositions, with a solid understanding of legal terminology and protocols.
  • Ability to accurately record and preserve testimony, including handling multiple speakers and complex subject matter.
  • Reliable reporting equipment and software suitable for remote and hybrid proceedings.
  • Strong time management skills, ability to meet strict deadlines, and comfort working as an independent contractor.
  • Professional communication skills and a commitment to confidentiality, ethics, and client service.
  • Prior experience with remote depositions and familiarity with common video-conferencing platforms is highly beneficial.
