Position: Customs Operations Import Advisor (Hybrid, TX or AZ)

Position Overview

This role is a hybrid Import Advisor position within RTX’s Enterprise Services team, located in Richardson, TX. The Import Advisor will be the primary point of contact for import declaration filings for one or more businesses, reporting to the Import Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliant and timely submission of import declaration filings.
  • Translate regulatory declaration requirements into comprehensive, easy‑to‑understand consultative guidance to ensure compliance and facilitate shipment execution.
  • Process classified import shipments.
  • Collaborate with internal programs and functions such as Global Trade, Shipping, Receiving, International Logistics, Customs Brokers, and Freight Forwarders.
  • Review valuation, country of origin, and product related information for accuracy.
  • Generate the required documentation for import broker instructions using SAP‑based and other systems.
  • Manage customer expectations through collaboration, complete record‑keeping packages, and licensing requirement management.
  • Assess the accuracy of documentation provided by freight forwarders.
  • Monitor, escalate, and resolve agent‑filer service failures.
  • Operate in accordance with standard operating procedures and recommend updates to processes and tools to accommodate compliant and facilitative goods flow.
  • Represent the organization as primary contact for import declaration filings with internal customers and third‑party service providers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of experience in customs compliance and operations in an exporter/importer environment, or experience in Customs Brokerage, Freight Forwarding, Department of State & Commerce Licensing, policy, or government relations, or an advanced degree with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing high‑volume, time‑sensitive import compliance activities, balancing competing deadlines to ensure accurate, on‑time declaration filings.
  • Experience with customs compliance regulations and application of export/import trade regulations.
  • Knowledge of ABI, ACE, DDTC, HTS, export/import valuation, other government agency requirements, free trade agreements, CBP processes, and U.S. government import regulations.
  • Familiarity with foreign trade agreements (FTAs) and other duty mitigation programs is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Detail and task‑oriented self‑starter who can develop effective networks with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid and remote team environment.
  • Experience working with classified shipments and transportation plans.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and SAP‑based systems.
  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) and/or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS).
