Position SummaryThe Compliance & Import / Export Specialist is responsible for executing international trade compliance, import/export operations, and global logistics coordination. This role ensures adherence to U.S. Customs regulations (CBP) and international trade laws, optimizes duty spend, and supports supply chain efficiency through proactive shipment management and compliance governance.
Compliance & Import / Export SpecialistKey Responsibilities
- Perform HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) classification and Schedule B coding to ensure accurate import/export declarations and compliance
- Monitor tariff changes, trade regulations, duty rates, and communicate impacts to stakeholders
- Manage trade compliance activities aligned with CBP requirements, including Importer Security Filing (ISF)
- Administer and support CTPAT (Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) program compliance and validation
- Analyze Free Trade Agreements (FTA) and USMCA eligibility to reduce duties and optimize landed cost
- Prepare, review, and maintain import/export documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, AES filings, certificates of origin)
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, NVOCCs, carriers, customs brokers, drayage providers, and 3PL partners
- Track inbound and outbound international shipments, ensuring on-time delivery and exception management
- Resolve customs holds, delays, and compliance issues through root cause analysis and corrective action
- Maintain and analyze shipment data, logistics KPIs, and reporting for continuous improvement
- Support carrier sourcing, RFPs, and contract negotiations using logistics analytics and cost modeling
- Assist with Duty Drawback claims processing and audit support
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and international regulations (CBP, EAR, ITAR awareness preferred)
- Support hazardous materials and dangerous goods compliance (IATA, DOT, IMDG)
- Develop and implement SOPs, process improvements, and internal compliance controls
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Global Logistics, International Trade, or related field
- 2+ years of experience in import/export operations, trade compliance, or global logistics
- Strong knowledge of HTS classification, Schedule B, AES filings, and CBP regulations
- Experience with Free Trade Agreements (USMCA preferred)
- Knowledge of hazardous materials regulations (IATA, DOT, IMDG) preferred
- Experience working with ERP, TMS, WMS, or Global Trade Management (GTM) systems preferred
- Advanced Microsoft 365 skills (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced supply chain environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
