Position: Seasonal Custodial Worker (Motor Vehicle Operating)

Summary

The primary purpose of the work is custodial and janitorial work such as sweeping, scrubbing and waxing floors, washing windows and walls, dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures. Work is done by hand or with powered equipment. The incumbent must on a regular and recurring basis operate light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick-up trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, etc…) to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites located on the park.

Temporary – not-to-exceed 1039 Hours;
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is Nov – May but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty:
Nov 2025

Full-time – You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Duties

The incumbent will serve as Seasonal Custodial Worker – Motor Vehicle Operating (MVO) with Hot Springs National Park. Responsibilities included performing a variety of laboring, grounds and custodial duties in the upkeep of park facilities.

  • Servicing restrooms, emptying refuse cans and upkeep of the park grounds.
  • Operating a variety of hand tools and power tools including hammers, screwdrivers, tape measures, blowers, carpet shampooers, vacuum cleaners, and floor buffers.
  • Work both inside and outside in all types of weather.
  • Use all necessary safety equipment in the performance of assigned duties.
Requirements

Conditions of employment

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
  • Direct Deposit:
    Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • Uniform:
    You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • DRIVER’S LICENSE:
    You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver’s license is required.
  • Minimum Age Requirement:
    Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education;

    or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
  • Employment may be terminated at any time due to fluctuations in funding levels, project needs, employee performance, or other considerations.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT), Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints), Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment, Dexterity and Safety, Vehicle Operation, and Work Practices (including keeping things neat, clean, and in order)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Performed the most difficult and complex laborer and custodial/janitorial tasks including ability to operate trucks and trailers weighing up to 10,000 pounds; properly loading and unloading various supplies and equipment; to perform work providing laboring assistance to others in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, roads, trails, cleaning restrooms, windows, vacuuming carpets, floors, emptying trash and recyclables; operate power equipment such as floor scrubbers, floor buffers and floor strippers;

and safely use a variety of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hammers, saws, etc.
