The Center for African & African American Studies (CAAAS) at CU Boulder is encouraging applications for The CAAAS Program manager position! This role manages The CAAAS office and supports the center’s efforts to be the focal point for Black community and culture at the University of Colorado Boulder. The CAAAS is a multipurpose space where scholars, students, artists, activists, and allies come together to study Africa, African Americans, and the African diaspora.
The Program Manager reports to the center’s Faculty Director. The center is overseen by the Dean of the Graduate School and guided by an external Advisory Board. This position supports the CAAAS Faculty Director and Executive Board to develop CAAAS programs and implement the CAAAS mission and vision.
The Program Manager is responsible for implementing program activities and policies guided by the Faculty Director, maintaining the office and managing daily operations, and providing administrative support. This position supports students, departments, programs, and other CU centers, and collaborates with the Graduate School, VCAA Financial Service Center (FSC), Strategic Relations & Communications (SRC), and other academic and administrative offices. Alongside the Faculty Director, the CAAAS Program Manager also partners with organizations on and off campus to foster collaboration and ensure inclusive community for African & African American students, faculty, and staff at CU Boulder.
This is a full-time university staff position working 40 hours per week in a hybrid mode that includes both remote work and on-campus work. Occasional evenings/weekends are also required.

What YourKey Responsibilities Will Be Programming
- In partnership with the Faculty Directors, ensure successful implementation and completion of program activities, such as fellowships & scholarships, research support, faculty and grad student awards, recruitment/retention, and community outreach and activities.
- Support the Faculty Director in building and maintaining relationships and projects with campus and community partners, including but not limited to;
University Libraries, CU Presents, Program Manager for Black Diaspora in Student Affairs, School of Education, Ethnic Studies, The Office of the Chancellor Office of Governor Jared Polis, the Office of Congressman Joe Neguse, the Office of Senator Michael Bennet, the Office of the Mayor of the City of Boulder, the Dairy Center for the Arts, the Boulder Jewish Community Center, local libraries and local school districts. - Manage African & African American Studies Certificate, including promotion, supporting center leaders with awarding and declaring decisions, coordinating with faculty on courses and updating course catalog, monitoring progress of participating students, and adjusting degree audits as necessary.
- Oversee and supervise events, including scheduling, arranging travel, reserving spaces, catering, renting equipment, preparing publications and advertising, etc.
- Collaborate with the Director of Communications in Strategic Relations & Communications on strategic comms planning and reputational promotion via CRM and newsletter management.
- Manage daily communications and marketing, including website, social media, listservs, and event promotions.
- Support the Faculty Directors in developing and implementing policy decisions and programming initiatives.
- Serve as office manager and point of contact for questions and concerns from faculty, staff, students, community partners and visitors, managing the center’s calendars, supervising student workers, and maintaining office supplies, equipment, and subscriptions & memberships.
