Overview
The University of New Mexico, School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated Accounting & Fiscal Services Supervisor to lead its accounting team. This position plays a critical role in overseeing the department's financial operations and supporting leadership through accurate analysis, reporting, and strategic financial guidance.
The successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience managing federal, state, and non-profit contracts and grants, along with strong supervisory and team leadership skills. The Accounting & Fiscal Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing departmental financials, analyzing trends, and reporting to department leadership. This role also supervises and trains staff, manages day-to-day accounting operations, and ensures compliance with internal controls and funding requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Researching and resolving budget, procurement, billing, and expenditure issues
- Maintaining effective internal controls
- Participating in financial and budget meetings with department leaders, sponsors, and external stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, successful completion of at least 15 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications- UNM accounting experience
- Supervisory experience, including staff training and development
- Demonstrated team-building skills as both a team member and team leader
- Expertise in creating ad hoc financial reports for management and leadership
- Proven ability to communicate financial information and compliance requirements to staff, leadership, physicians, and other professionals
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to build structure and processes to manage a robust organization
