What You’ll Be Doing (position summary):
The Senior Manager, Application Development is accountable for managing multiple development projects, development groups, and application support functions for a major line of business. The role oversees the development, testing, and implementation of organization-wide systems, directing, motivating, and developing staff to maximize their individual contribution and function effectively as a team. This role ensures resource requirements and allocations are managed, quality is monitored and improved, and best practice development techniques are leveraged.
The Senior Manager works closely with business partners to support the development, testing, and implementation of application programs that drive business improvement.

How You’ll Succeed (Responsibilities):
Delivery Focused:
- Work closely with internal partners to determine, negotiate, and manage projects to agreed timelines.
- Monitor finances, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Implement projects in a timely fashion that are of high quality, low cost, and on budget.
Technical Expertise:
- Collaborate directly with development, design, and production support teams to build strong, reliable data solutions using best data practices.
- Lead hands-on development efforts leveraging Azure Data Cloud Services and Big Data technologies.
People Leadership:
- Lead and coach a high-performing team to ensure multiple concurrent projects and objectives are met.
- Direct, motivate, and develop staff to maximize contributions and professional growth.
- Share knowledge and collaborate to solve complex problems.
Relationship Management:
- Work closely with project teams, executives, stakeholders, and business partners to develop and implement application programs.
- Advise application owners on technology implementation possibilities and requirements.
Solution Creation Process:
- Lead, facilitate, and coordinate solution design, ensuring alignment across multiple work streams.
Finance Management:
- Manage resource finances to ensure all projects are on track for timelines and budget.
- Contribute to operational, short-term, and strategic planning in support of the Big Data Platform & Service team.
People Management:
- Set appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals’ roles support the achievement of the business unit’s priorities and CIBC’s overall goals.
- Build team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training.
- Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing. obstacles to performance, and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.
- Create a positive work environment and be an effective role model by championing CIBC’s mission, vision, and values.
- Ensure compliance with policies, standards, guidelines, and controls by applying the policies and controls fairly and consistently so employees understand what to expect.
- Hire the right people in the right jobs to align individual capabilities with job requirements and business unit goals.
