Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Interim Chief Operating Officer (COO) for a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing meaningful impact on a national and global scale. This role is hybrid

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Interim Chief Operating Officer (COO) will serve as a key executive partner to the President & CEO, providing operational, financial, and organizational leadership during a critical period of growth and transition. This role is responsible for ensuring continuity, strengthening infrastructure, and supporting strategic execution across core functions. The ideal leader brings a collaborative, steady presence and a passion for supporting mission-driven work through strong operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide executive oversight for finance, operations, human resources, systems, and administrative functions
  • Partner closely with the President & CEO to stabilize and strengthen organizational infrastructure
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial oversight for a multi-million-dollar operating budget
  • Guide organizational change management and operational improvements during a period of growth
  • Oversee contracts, vendor relationships, and compliance efforts
  • Support executive reporting, board engagement, and long-term operational planning
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10+ years in executive nonprofit leadership
  • Strong background in financial management, budgeting, and organizational oversight
  • Experience leading cross‑functional teams and managing complex operations
  • Experience navigating systems transitions
  • Experience with Paylocity, Quick Books and Sage a plus!
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This role offers a competitive hourly rate between $100–$127 per hour, with the potential to convert to a permanent executive position. For permanent placement, the anticipated salary range is approximately $200,000–$265,000, depending on experience. The organization provides employer‑issued equipment, supports flexible hybrid or remote work during the interim phase, and offers a comprehensive benefits package upon permanent hire, including health coverage and additional executive‑level benefits.
