The Justice Department in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Troth Yeddha' Campus is seeking a Program Coordinator for the Fairbanks Community Restorative Justice and Diversion Initiative (FCRJ). This position is located in Fairbanks, Alaska at the Fairbanks Community Restorative Justice and Diversion Initiative (FCRJ) Office inside the Fairbanks Courthouse. Some work may occur at the UAF Justice Department or other locations in Alaska.
The successful applicant must be highly motivated and organized, and enjoy helping people take positive steps to improve their lives. This position will help oversee the FCRJ operations and direct the work of program volunteers.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the criminal justice system and court proceedings, along with a solid grasp of restorative justice principles and values. This role requires excellent organizational and project management skills, proficiency with computers and standard office equipment, and the ability to manage complex initiatives effectively. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to create agendas, lead meetings, facilitate group discussions, and guide dispute resolution processes such as mediation and restorative justice gatherings.
The successful candidate will demonstrate cultural competency and the ability to work respectfully with diverse populations, maintain close attention to detail and follow-through, support participants whose perspectives may differ from their own, and uphold strict confidentiality when required.
Typical experience for the position is someone who has worked in justice, human services, educational, or social work settings for three years and three years of college coursework in a relevant field.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified applicants must have earned a high school diploma or have a GED; pass a background check performed by the Alaska Court Judicial Services to be cleared for court access and security reasons; must have at least three years of experience working in a justice, human services, educational, social work, or other relevant setting that interacts with those who have been charged with adult criminal or juvenile delinquent offenses and three years of college coursework in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Qualified applicants must also be proficient with computers, database input, presentation programs and equipment (proficient including but not limited to programs such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Google email and programs). The job offer will be conditional upon a successful background check conducted by the Alaska Court System meeting the requirements of Alaska Judicial Services for court access and security and the FCRJ Advisory Team for overall appropriateness for position.
Position Details:
This position is located in Fairbanks, Alaska at the Fairbanks Community Restorative Justice and Diversion Initiative (FCRJ) Office inside the Fairbanks Courthouse. This is a year-round, part-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
