The General Superintendent Mechanical will manage and lead the project team and construction crew, establishing standards, training, and leadership for the construction team and department. The role reports to the Field Operations Manager or other designated management personnel. This hybrid position requires time at a home office and on various job sites, with standard hours Monday through Friday (8:00 am‑5:00 pm or 9:00 am‑6:00 pm local time) and may require overtime or weekend work.
Travel up to 75% of the time.
- Lead the superintendents and craft teams throughout project duration.
- Develop detailed CPM schedules for installation activities and maintain a schedule of values to support billing.
- Coordinate activities, scheduling, material procurement, project logistics, and temporary facility plans with the project manager and field staff.
- Approve materials and equipment for mechanical/structural systems, monitor installation and startup, and resolve conflicts before work commences.
- Prepare and communicate progress reports to Project Managers, Directors, owners, and at weekly meetings.
- Review and improve contract documents as needed.
- Supervise, develop, and mentor Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, and Civil Project Engineers.
- Oversee submittals and shop drawings, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Collaborate with team members for effective communication and results.
- Provide cost estimation, including site due diligence, cost identification, tracking, and reporting.
- Perform special projects and duties assigned by Management.
- Maintain regular attendance in accordance with company policy.
- 7+ years site supervision experience.
- Substantial experience as a superintendent on projects above $20 million.
- Thorough knowledge of construction codes and medium‑voltage systems.
- Understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building codes related to construction.
- Experience managing subcontracts and subcontractors.
- 5–7 years managing major projects, preferably in power stations or utility‑scale construction.
- At least 2 years of solar PV or wind power project experience.
- Knowledge of industrial relations and labor issue resolution.
- Familiarity with company construction guides, manuals, safety protocols, and constructability.
- Strong conflict management, multitasking, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Construction safety awareness and proficiency with safety programs.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and construction scheduling software.
- Leadership experience and proven project management capability.
- Fluent in written and spoken English; additional language skills advantageous.
- Ability to travel up to 75% of the time.
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, and confined spaces.
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work at elevated heights and in confined areas.
- Walk or move continuously while carrying up to 50 lbs of tools or materials; assistance may be required for items over 50 lbs.
- Stand or walk for extended periods; work on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel).
- Perform repetitive movements with full range of motion and flexibility.
- Work outdoors in varying climate, extreme temperatures, humidity, rain, noise, and potential chemical exposure.
Industrial construction sites and/or fabrication shop; up to 75% travel required.
