Position: Court Operations Lead worker II, Housing Court, Hennepin County

Hennepin County District Court invites qualified applicants for a Court Operations Lead worker II position in the Civil Division-Housing Court. Housing Court is a specialty court involving landlord-tenant disputes.

The Court Operations Lead worker II serves as a division leader and positive role model by applying specialized clerical expertise and a thorough understanding of division practices, while demonstrating exceptional communication skills, technical proficiency, initiative, and motivation in support of the District’s mission, vision, and values. This position performs highly advanced case processing, staff training, operational support, and financial balancing functions. Work is completed in a high-volume, fast-paced environment that requires dedication to providing excellent customer service, application of specialized clerical knowledge, and a comprehensive understanding of Housing Court operations and procedures.

The Lead worker II within the Fourth Judicial District-Housing Court division uses their vast knowledge of court operations, technical expertise, advanced problem-solving skills, and leadership skills to serve as a primary resource for staff and internal/external stakeholders; to proactively identify workflow or process issues through analysis and research; to make accurate and timely decisions in the face of ambiguous or difficult situations;

to coach and mentor staff in the supervisor’s absence; and to provide consistent training in court operations under limited supervision.

This AFSCME-represented position is classified as a Court Operations Lead worker II. Housing Court is located in the court tower of the Hennepin County Government Center (3rd floor, C-300) in downtown Minneapolis at 300 South Sixth Street. Typical hours for this position are 8:00 a.m.

- 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. This is primarily an onsite position, with limited remote work opportunities depending on operational needs. A reliable internet connection will be required if working remotely.

Example of Duties
  • Provide lead work direction to the Housing Court team by reviewing work for accuracy and compliance, coordinating workflow, monitoring workload and coverage, and guiding the unit through operational changes in collaboration with management; respond to inquiries from internal and external customers, provide backup for office functions, and serve as a resource on policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Act as the first point of contact for complex matters by providing daily support and direction, as well as responding to questions and resolving issues for administrative and judicial staff, other departments, and stakeholders to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Train on all facets of Zoom hearings.
  • Contribute to ongoing process improvements, develop and revise policies and procedures, and provide training to ensure staff have the necessary knowledge and resources to be successful in their role.
  • Build and maintain professional working relationships with justice partners and serve as a liaison to independently address and resolve stakeholder concerns, while providing daily leadership and direction to the Housing Court team by acting as a positive role model, coach, and mentor, and supporting the supervisor to ensure the daily needs of staff are met.
  • Compile and analyze reports and monitor court operations processes for the purpose of identifying trends, issues, and proactively making recommendations for improvements. Review and check the work of staff and ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, rules, and guidelines; consult with supervisor on workflow process improvements. Ensure adequate staffing is in place to achieve timely case processing and courtroom support needs.
  • Perform financial functions, produce and review operational reports for the purpose of accuracy and compliance, and initiate corrective actions to ensure the court record is accurately documented.
