Our Director of Commercial Product Management & Development within the WPS Health Plan is responsible for defining and leading the strategic direction, performance, and growth of the commercial product portfolio across individual and employer markets, including Fully Insured and ASO Self-Funded offerings. This Director owns end-to-end product portfolio strategy, ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives, market opportunities, and financial targets. They translate market insights into actionable strategies, drive innovation, and ensure delivery of competitive, compliant, and market‑leading products.
They lead a team of product management professionals and partners cross‑functionally to optimize portfolio performance, enhance customer value, and achieve sustainable growth.
This Director serves as a key advisor to senior leadership, influencing enterprise decision‑making and shaping the organization’s competitive position in a dynamic and highly regulated healthcare environment.
Salary Range$165,000 ~ $200,000
The base pay offered for this position may vary within the posted range based on your job‑related knowledge, skills, experience and may fall outside of this range.
Work LocationOur first consideration will be to have this employee live in the state of Wisconsin to take advantage of hybrid work and collaboration. Employees within 45 miles of WPS Headquarters (1717 W. Broadway in Madison, WI, 53713) will be expected to be able to work 2 days a week on site on a regular basis. As a secondary consideration, we could consider remote work in Wisconsin.
Responsibilities- Can define and execute the enterprise commercial product portfolio strategy, aligning with organizational growth, profitability, and market objectives.
- Are passionate about establishing and driving a long‑term product vision and innovation roadmap informed by market trends and customer needs.
- Have led the evaluation and optimization of the portfolio, including product enhancements, expansions, and retirements.
- Can oversee the development and approval of business cases, investments, and financial models, ensuring strong ROI and disciplined capital allocation.
- Enjoy partnering with Finance and Underwriting to align product strategy with pricing, risk, and profitability goals.
- Have established operating models, governance, and decision‑making frameworks to support effective product management.
- Would thrive serving as a strategic advisor to leadership, influencing enterprise decisions on product direction and market opportunities.
- Like driving alignment across cross‑functional stakeholders, including Sales, Marketing, Network Operations, Finance, and Compliance.
- Can oversee execution across the full product lifecycle, ensuring delivery of competitive, compliant, and market‑leading solutions.
- Wan to ensure adherence to regulatory, legal, and compliance requirements, maintaining strong governance and risk management practices.
- Have led, developed, and grew a team of product leaders and high‑performing professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10 or more years of progressive health insurance product management or development experience.
- 5 or more years of experience managerial or people leadership roles and/or leading large, cross‑functional teams.
- Deep expertise in Commercial individual and employer group products, including benefit design, funding models, and regulatory constraints.
- Demonstrated experience with portfolio strategy, financial management, and product lifecycle leadership.
- Strong understanding of health insurance markets, competitive dynamics, and regulatory frameworks (HIPAA, ACA, ERISA).
- Proven ability to influence senior leadership and drive enterprise‑level decision making including:
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities, with the ability to translate insights into actionable outcomes.
