Job Overview
As a Senior Silviculture Manager, you will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing both annual and long‑term silviculture plans that align with our strategic Market Driven Precision Forestry (MDPF) and sustainability goals. You will optimize silviculture regimes to maximize productivity, efficiency, and financial returns across your designated area, overseeing site preparation, timber stand improvements, and contractor relationships to drive growth and health of our forest assets.
Key Responsibilities- Advance market‑driven precision forestry principles through effective investment and prudent capital allocation that meets established ROI criteria.
- Plan and implement site‑specific prescriptions and treatments, optimizing resource allocation to reduce costs and maximize productivity.
- Develop and manage silviculture budgets and forecasts, monitoring costs against projections to drive maximum financial performance.
- Oversee the contract process: assess contractor capabilities, mitigate capacity risks, and build strong, compliant relationships.
- Foster a culture of collaboration while maintaining partnerships with research cooperatives, adjacent landowners, and public agencies.
- Leverage innovative tools and GIS to monitor forest health and measure productivity on every acre.
- Design and execute comprehensive programs for site preparation, planting, weed control, and fertilization that align with company financial objectives.
- Drive operational excellence through process optimization and operational research to enhance silvicultural practices.
- Monitor monthly, quarterly, and annual variances against budgets and forecasts; report findings as required by the District Manager.
- Identify cost‑saving opportunities and manage all phases of the contract process to ensure adherence to legal and company standards.
- Embrace the company’s safety culture and ensure all strategies fully support sustainability commitments and regulatory compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or a related field; a graduate degree in Forestry or Business is preferred.
- Minimum eight (8) years of experience in land management with a strong emphasis on silviculture and forest operations administration.
- Thorough understanding of regeneration silviculture, timber stand improvement, forest inventory, GIS applications, and sustainable forestry practices.
- Proven ability to motivate others, excellent communication, and strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Direct experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and cost control.
Physical Requirements
This role requires extensive physical activity, including hiking across varied terrain (uneven ground, slopes, wetlands, and dense vegetation), carrying equipment and supplies, and performing strenuous tasks such as inventory measurements and sale setup. You will need to maintain stability on uneven surfaces, navigate obstacles, and work in diverse weather conditions while operating machinery, power tools, and motor vehicles. Flexibility to travel within the district is required.
