Weapons Missions Services (WMS-DO) is seeking a results-driven Project Leader (Level 3 or
4) to lead moderately large to complex projects. This role defines requirements, develops work packages, and ensures delivery of scope, schedule, and budget commitments. At the higher level, the position assumes greater accountability for complex performance, risk management, and engagement with senior leaders and stakeholders while leading cross-functional teams from initiation through completion.
The Project Leader 3 (PL3) manages scope and ensures the timely delivery of moderately large projects from initiation through completion. This role establishes requirements and leads the execution of project deliverables, budgets, and schedules. You will guide project teams in planning and execution while developing work packages aligned with programmatic objectives and defined outcomes.
Project Leader 4 ResponsibilitiesThe Project Leader 4 leads large, complex projects with greater accountability for scope, schedule, and budget performance. You will proactively manage risks, lead cross-functional teams, and serve as the primary point of contact for senior leadership and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
Salary Range- Project Leader 3: $117,200 to $195,400
- Project Leader 4: $128,000 to $215,900
While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range and more common for selected candidates to grow into the full salary band over time.

Job Requirements:

- Education/Experience for Project Leader 3: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- Education/Experience for Project Leader 4: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 12 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- Experience managing moderately large to highly complex projects across the full project lifecycle.
- Knowledge and expertise in project management principles, including WBS, schedules, work packages, and baseline/change control management.
- Ability to manage scope, schedule, cost, and performance, and prepare project documentation and reports.
- Ability to serve as the primary point of contact for project statuses, risks, and issues, delivering briefings to leadership and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to analyze, research, and resolve complex problems independently and collaboratively.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including consensus building, conflict resolution, and relationship development.
- In addition to the requirements outlined for Project Leader 3 above, consultative experience in all aspects of project management work and in developing and nurturing effective high-level internal and/or external customer relationships.
- Proficiency with project management and data analysis tools (e.g., MS Project and MS Excel).
- Project management training or certification (e.g., PMI, PMP).
- Working knowledge of laboratory, government, or federally funded project environments.
- Working experience with manufacturing or production work planning and scheduling.
- Working experience with Conduct of Operations.
- Working knowledge of regulatory and Laboratory requirements related to projects.
- An active DOE Q-Level clearance.
The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. This is not a Telework or Remote position. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
