Membership Manager – University of Michigan Museum of Natural History

Job Summary
Part‑time (30 hours per week) for a two‑year, term‑limited position. Compensation $25 per hour, totaling $39,000 annually. The Manager oversees the entire membership program, including strategy, reporting, logistics, data management, and fulfillment of member requests. The role involves donor engagement, campaign support, and member stewardship, with a membership assistant handling transactional processing.

Responsibilities Membership Program Management
  • Provide managerial oversight and implementation of the museum's membership program
  • Implement best strategies for stewardship, renewal, and upgrading of current members; acquiring new members and visitor conversion; increasing annual fund gifts from members.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of current membership program services, benefits, and policies, relating to retention and acquisition of members on a regular basis
  • Recommend, design, and implement changes to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
Membership Stewardship and Cultivation
  • Serve as primary representative of the membership program on a daily basis, at all membership events, including opening, programs, and members‑only events.
  • Lead membership cultivation by building relationships with individuals and organizing events and partnerships.
Membership Event Planning and Implementation
  • Establish overall strategy and the annual calendar of membership events and programs.
  • Coordinate events connected to membership benefits including birthday parties and corporate membership events.
  • Plan and implement membership events collaborating with Associate Director of Operations.
  • Assist colleagues with other development events and activities as needed.
Member Communications, Operations and Logistics
  • Develop and direct strategies driving integrated mail campaigns to acquire, upgrade, and renew members and donors.
  • Maintain a schedule of solicitations and cultivations, including delivery of strategic, creative, and data files.
Reporting and Data Analysis
  • Generate reports to measure results of membership campaigns, and overall membership retention and growth.
  • Monitor progress toward revenue goals and provide reports for senior management.
Data Management
  • Develop, promote, and document best practices and policies associated with member, donor, and prospect management.
  • Maintain security, accuracy, and integrity of the database.
  • Oversee transactional work of the Membership Assistant, including membership and gift processing and correspondence.
Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with Assistant Director for Development to meet department objectives.
  • Partner with Marketing and Communications to create collateral material, support the museum's online presence for members via social media, and update membership sections of the museum website.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Director for Development to identify and upgrade members to higher levels of annual giving.
  • Work with the Assistant Director for Development and finance to prepare and monitor membership revenue and expense budgets.
  • Provide training and resources for Visitor Services.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Membership development/fundraising experience
  • Ability to work on a variety of projects simultaneously, strong project‑management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in development database systems
  • Creativity, strategic planning skills, and entrepreneurial spirit

Evening and weekends required.

Location and Work Arrangements

Ann Arbor Campus, Ann Arbor, MI. Onsite work is required; remote work may be considered with supervisor approval.

Compensation and Hours

Pay $25 per hour ($39,000 annually). Part‑time, 30 hours per week. Two‑year term‑limited position. Non‑exempt.
