Location:

Remote anywhere in Canada or Hybrid if close to an office.

Compensation:
Total target compensation (TTC) range is $99,568 - $145,600, applicable to permanent roles only.

Job Overview

The Manager is responsible for daily operations, strategic talent development, and driving claim outcomes in Life and Disability Claims. The role utilizes a data‑informed coaching model, focusing on early intervention, decision accuracy, and the retention of skilled Claim Managers.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high‑performance coaching and mentorship to develop and retain claim professionals.
  • Establish transparent, measurable performance objectives aligned with team goals and deliver high‑frequency, real‑time coaching and ongoing feedback.
  • Design and deliver comprehensive learning programs for onboarding and ongoing training to address organization needs and team gaps.
  • Facilitate daily interactions and team meetings to foster collaboration, reduce burnout, and promote professional growth.
  • Ensure accurate, quality assurance file reviews to support sound decision‑making and adherence to contractual guidelines.
  • Advocate early and effective use of Rehabilitation Services to improve recovery outcomes and reduce claim durations.
  • Serve as subject‑matter expert for complex cases, including mental health claims and potential long‑term disability claims.
  • Analyze, interpret, and use data to identify claim opportunities, understand resourcing needs, and surface operational trends.
  • Identify process gaps and lead redesign efforts to improve customer and operational effectiveness.
  • Deliver clear, proactive, and exceptional communication throughout the claims journey to stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership, expert consultation, and solution generation for effective decision‑making and ongoing administration of Life and Disability Claims.
  • Collaborate with broader leadership teams to solve business problems and maintain consistency across operations.
  • Develop, implement, and review programs and policies to support operational objectives including best practices and protocols.
  • Manage claim escalations and appeals, ensuring process adherence and timely communication.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Disability Management, Rehabilitation Services, Group Insurance, and/or leading an operational team.
  • University degree with a concentration in Sciences, Business, Psychology, Human Resources, or a related disability field.
  • Experience or education in data analytics, group insurance industry, process improvement, and/or leading operational teams.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is required.
  • Well‑developed analytical, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to conduct research, investigate, and analyze.
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks or projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Capacity for independent decision‑making with significant reputational and financial implications.
  • Clear writing, listening, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English required for communicating with customers, advisors, or employees across Canada.
