Johnson & Johnson is recruiting a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Head – East Region (Hematology). This field-based role leads the national Hematology MSL organization, setting strategy and overseeing execution of scientific engagement with health‑care professionals across the United States.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute strategies to engage national, regional, and local opinion leaders and community practitioners supporting the Hematology organization.
- Collaborate with Therapeutic Area Leads, Global Medical, R&D and other partners to build field‑based strategies for research and collaboration.
- Recruit, coach, and develop Field Directors and MSLs, ensuring a qualified and diverse team through mentoring, performance coaching and talent retention.
- Lead disease‑area leadership teams, managing business planning, timelines, budgeting, and staffing for each compound.
- Develop and maintain external alliances, ensuring compliance with legal, privacy and regulatory guardrails.
- Build and maintain relationships with Healthcare Professional stakeholders, cross‑functional partners and senior executives to align on common goals.
- Implement data‑driven insights, AI‑enabled tools and analytics to inform strategy, risk assessment and enterprise decision‑making.
- Support evidence generation activities such as trials, investigator‑initiated studies and registries in partnership with Global Medical Affairs and Commercial teams.
- Communicate field medical impact to senior stakeholders and facilitate strategic initiatives across the organization.
- Provide scientific leadership and operational support to the Medical Affairs Department, guiding teams on strategic thinking and influence skills.
- Define and implement a long‑term field strategy for the Hematology MSL teams, including vision, FTE and budget assessments.
- Develop innovative stakeholder engagement methods, advisory boards, and customer‑engagement meetings with senior and executive HCPs.
- Execute launch strategies for new products and line extensions, leveraging competitive intelligence and market insights.
- Ensure optimal territory plans and metrics for business goals, using compliant aggregated field insights.
- Implement performance analysis tools, customer interaction reporting and account planning systems.
- Collaborate with US and Global Medical Affairs, Communications, Commercial and Research & Development to support evidence, data and communication needs.
- Lead strategic disease‑related and asset strategies, monitoring therapeutic environment changes and adjusting medical strategy accordingly.
- Identify and act on educational gaps, research opportunities and regulatory approvals for MSL initiatives.
- Serve as the point of contact for R&D, Marketing, Legal and Clinical teams, communicating field impact and securing buy‑in.
- Manage a national Hematology MSL team, ensuring clarity of strategy, consistent execution and positive performance metrics.
- Coach Field Directors/People Leaders through performance discussions, training, and career development plans.
- Attract, recruit and retain a diverse, high‑performing workforce, providing succession planning and development opportunities.
- Foster an inclusive and collaborative culture that embraces diverse perspectives and values Credo principles.
- Maintain MSL scientific and clinical acumen across new disease states, products and pipeline assets.
- Advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, or MD) required.
- Minimum 10years of Medical Affairs and/or Clinical Research & Development experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Evidence of leading field‑based teams with experience in evidence generation and communication.
- Minimum 2–3years of prior MSL management responsibility.
- Residency/fellowship experience highly preferred.
- Hematology/Oncology experience preferred.
- Strong analytical, strategic and customer‑facing field strategy skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; willingness to adopt new AI technologies.
- Ability to travel 60–70% annual domestic, maintaining a home office at proximity to an airport; require attendance at national congresses and corporate meetings.
