The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage is looking to appoint a dynamic and forward-thinking Planning Director to join the Strategy and Engagement team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to shape strategic planning outcomes that support sustainable growth and strong community development across Western Australia.
As a Planning Director – Strategy and Engagement, you will provide leadership, strategic direction and oversee the day-to-day operations of a high-performing planning team. The team is responsible for delivering a diverse portfolio of work, including complex planning projects, policy development and review, infrastructure coordination, and infrastructure grant administration.
In this influential role, you will provide specialist technical advice and analysis to support decision-making in the best interests of the Government and Department. You will play a key role in guiding evidence-based outcomes, while also contributing to the development and continuous improvement of departmental policy and procedures.
Success in this position will require strong leadership, sound judgement, and the ability to build productive relationships across government, industry, and the community. You will thrive in a complex and evolving environment, bringing a strategic mindset and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
There is one permanent fulltime opportunity available for immediate appointment. This process may be used to fill future similar permanent or fixed-term positions that may arise within the Department and across the WA public sector in the next 12 months from the initial date of appointment.
The Perth office is located in Perth CBD in a convenient location, above the Perth Underground rail; close to the Wellington Street Bus Station and City CAT services.
ResponsibilitiesTo be successful for this position, you need to demonstrate:
- A degree in Urban and Regional Studies or Urban and Regional Planning or an approved equivalent.
- Extensive experience in strategic planning, infrastructure coordination or policy formulation and implementation.
- Extensive experience in leading and managing complex information gathering and analysis in support of state priorities.
- Extensive experience in leading and managing multi-faceted projects.
- Extensive experience in stakeholder engagement, building relationships and successfully negotiating outcomes.
- Demonstrate the behaviours within the leadership context, Leading Leaders, as outlined below.
