What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either Project Leader 3 or Project Leader 4, depending on the skills of the selected candidate(s). Additional job responsibilities, outlined below, will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Weapons Missions Services (WMS-DO) is seeking a results-driven Project Leader (Level 3 or
4) to lead moderately large to complex projects. The role defines requirements, develops work packages, and ensures delivery of scope, schedule, and budget commitments. At the higher level, the position assumes greater accountability for complex performance, risk management, and engagement with senior leaders and stakeholders while leading cross-functional teams from initiation through completion.
- Manage scope and ensure the timely delivery of moderately large projects from initiation through completion.
- Establish requirements and lead the execution of project deliverables, budgets, and schedules.
- Guide project teams in planning and execution while developing work packages aligned with programmatic objectives and defined outcomes.
- Lead large, complex projects with greater accountability for scope, schedule, and budget performance.
- Proactively manage risks, lead cross-functional teams, and serve as the primary point of contact for senior leadership and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
- In addition to the duties listed for Project Leader 3, candidates for Project Leader 4 will also consult on all aspects of project management and develop high-level internal and/or external customer relationships.
- Project Leader 3: $117,200 to $195,400
- Project Leader 4: $128,000 to $215,900
Job Requirements
- Education/Experience for Project Leader 3:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination. - Education/Experience for Project Leader 4:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 12 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination. - Project Leader 3 Requirements:
- Experience managing moderately large to highly complex projects across the full project lifecycle.
- Knowledge and expertise in project management principles, including WBS, schedules, work packages, and baseline/change control management.
- Ability to manage scope, schedule, cost, and performance, and prepare project documentation and reports.
- Ability to serve as the primary point of contact for project statuses, risks, and issues, delivering briefings to leadership and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to analyze, research, and resolve complex problems independently and collaboratively.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including consensus building, conflict resolution, and relationship development.
- Project Leader 4 Requirements:
- All requirements for Project Leader 3.
- Consultative experience in all aspects of project management work and in developing and nurturing high-level customer relationships.
- Proficiency with project management and data analysis tools (e.g., MS Project and MS Excel).
- Project management training or certification (e.g., PMI, PMP).
- Working knowledge of laboratory, government, or federally funded project environments.
- Working experience with manufacturing or production work planning and scheduling.
- Working experience with Conduct of Operations.
- Working knowledge of regulatory and laboratory requirements related to projects.
- An active DOE Q-Level clearance.
Hybrid, located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within two hours ground commute. This is not a Telework or Remote position.
Work ScheduleThis position may require 24/7 coverage, including shift and weekend schedules. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned. Shift and weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.
