Role Overview

Dark Alpha Capital is seeking a Vice President of Operations, functioning as a Chief of Staff‑style role, to sit at the center of the firm’s execution, coordination, and internal management.

This role is the operational nerve center of the firm. The VP of Operations will be responsible for ensuring that deals, people, capital markets activity, and internal workflows all move forward in a coordinated, disciplined, and execution‑oriented manner.

While this is a senior leadership role, the firm operates leanly. Accordingly, the VP of Operations must be comfortable handling both high‑level execution and necessary administrative work to ensure outcomes are achieved. This is a doer‑leader role, not a purely delegative position.

Core Responsibilities
1. Chief of Staff & Firm Coordination
  • Act as the primary integrator across all firm functions: investments, operations, HR, capital markets, and administration.
  • Translate Managing Partner priorities into executable plans with clear ownership and deadlines.
  • Ensure cross‑functional alignment and eliminate execution gaps.
  • Serve as the central point of coordination for internal teams, Operating Partners, advisors, and third parties.
2. Deal Execution & Transaction Support
  • Support all active transactions from diligence through closing.
  • Track deal timelines, deliverables, approvals, and dependencies.
  • Coordinate internal deal teams and external advisors to maintain momentum.
  • Ensure execution discipline across all transactions.
3. Capital Markets & Investor Support
  • Support capital‑raising efforts and public‑market‑adjacent transactions.
  • Assist with investor coordination, data requests, and diligence processes.
  • Help manage timelines, materials, and communications related to capital markets activity.
  • Serve as an internal bridge between investment execution and capital markets workflows.
  • Own and manage the firm’s internal HR function.
  • Draft and maintain job descriptions for all firm roles.
  • Interview candidates for junior and mid‑level positions.
  • Supervise and manage the associate(s) performing day‑to‑day HR tasks.
  • Oversee onboarding, role clarity, performance tracking, and offboarding.
  • Coordinate recruiting relationships (recruiters, headhunters, referrals).
5. Operations, Administration & Systems
  • Oversee internal administrative functions required to keep the firm operating smoothly.
  • Ensure CRM, task management, and internal systems are properly maintained and used.
  • Enforce internal documentation and reporting standards.
  • Handle administrative execution where necessary to prevent bottlenecks.
6. Meeting Leadership & Follow‑Through
  • Attend and actively participate in all core firm and deal meetings.
  • Ensure decisions made in meetings are converted into tracked action items.
  • Hold team members accountable for execution.
  • Provide operational insight to support strategic decision‑making.
7. Reporting & Internal Visibility
  • Maintain clear, up‑to‑date reporting on:
  • Execution progress
  • Staffing and operational capacity
  • Ensure the Managing Partner has real‑time visibility into firm operations.
Authority & Expectations
  • This role carries real authority and accountability.
  • The VP of Operations is expected to own outcomes, not merely coordinate activity.
  • Independent judgment is expected within defined strategic parameters.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and solving problems without escalation is required.
Compensation
  • Compensation is transaction‑based and performance‑aligned.
  • The VP of Operations will receive 5%–10% of the firm’s net proceeds from each completed deal, with the exact percentage determined based on:
  • Scope of involvement
  • Contribution to execution and closing
  • Overall performance
  • Compensation is intended to align the role directly with firm success rather than fixed salary alone.
  • Additional long‑term upside may be available as the firm scales.
Qualifications Required
  • Experience in operations, execution, or chief‑of‑staff‑type roles within:
  • Investment firms
  • Transaction‑driven professional services
  • Strong understanding of deal execution and firm operations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously.
  • Comfort performing both strategic and administrative tasks.
  • High integrity, discretion, and execution discipline.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting capital raises or public‑market transactions.
  • Prior responsibility for HR functions in a lean organization.
  • Familiarity with CRM and deal‑tracking systems.
  • Experience working directly with a founder or Managing Partner.
