Overview

Regional Medical Lead – Otsuka America Pharmaceutical, Inc. is focused on delivering a patient-centric, local ecosystem approach that coordinates account management, medical, patient access, and market access to improve the patient experience and outcomes.

The Regional Medical Lead (RML) is a member of the regional leadership team who contributes to the regional strategic business plan and develops key stakeholder and C-suite relationships essential to the region. The RML maintains a deep understanding of the region to align with Otsuka’s patient-centric strategy and ensures resources address educational and care-continuity needs from a product and disease-state perspective.

The RML serves as the primary medical point of contact for top regional decision makers and influencers and collaborates with region field leadership to identify evidence needs and gaps in care.

The RML is accountable for capturing and sharing regional customer needs, insights, and knowledge with regional and local teams as well as Home Office, and for fostering a collaborative, patient-centric culture.

Key Activities and Responsibilities
  • As part of the regional leadership team, contribute to the regional strategic business plan addressing regional, local, and customer challenges, issues, and opportunities to improve patient care and outcomes; align with field activity execution.
  • In partnership with the Senior Business Director, establish and manage senior stakeholder and C-suite relationships across the region to understand needs and identify insights and opportunities for medical collaboration.
  • Develop a deep understanding of regional ecosystems, including health systems, centers of excellence, key influencers, decision makers, and payers.
  • Maintain alignment with Otsuka’s patient-centric strategy and priorities, including provision and delivery of optimal patient care.
  • Act as primary medical point of contact for top regional decision makers and influencers to co-create, prioritize, plan, and implement mutually beneficial initiatives aligned with business priorities.
  • Understand the region’s educational needs from a customer perspective and ensure resources are deployed to meet these needs from a product and disease-state approach.
  • Provide field leadership and managerial oversight to ensure MSLs focus on key institutions, influencers, and decision makers; RML maintains and engages a regional list of influential customers through the MSLs.
  • Identify regional evidence generation needs that align with local priorities in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Track the region’s customer experience and use insights to enhance engagement and medical strategy.
  • Represent customer needs and insights to senior leadership and internal partners to advance shared goals between Otsuka and the customer.
  • Identify and facilitate training for regional colleagues to ensure competency in the evolving market and healthcare landscape.
  • Develop and track metrics across medical activities, identify opportunities through analytics, and adapt medical plans using agile approaches.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to MSLs within the region.
  • Foster a collaborative, patient-centric culture centered on experimentation, innovation, and empowerment for action.
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Pharmacy, Medicine, or Biological Sciences (Pharm.D., M.D., D.O. or Ph.D.) strongly preferred.
  • 7-10 years of experience providing strategic leadership across therapeutic and cross-functional teams with demonstrated collaboration with customers and achievement of shared goals.
  • Experience developing, communicating, and implementing strategy across complex healthcare environments with the ability to influence without authority and mobilize colleagues to action.
  • Understanding of health systems interconnectivity, patient care delivery, and solutions aimed at improving patient outcomes.
  • Ability to comprehend complex scientific, medical, and business issues and analyze to identify barriers or success factors.
