Job Summary
National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is looking for a Museum Technician (History) to manage and preserve our museum collection. The role involves inventorying, registration, documentation, digitization of museum objects, exhibit work, public outreach, and providing professional support within the department. The position is based in Dallas, Texas, and includes telework eligibility as allowed by agency policy.
Responsibilities- Ensure inventory information is accurate in the collections management system and manage physical conditions of the collection.
- Use digital camera(s) and/or scanner(s) to create clear, appropriate digital images for a wide variety of artifacts and collection records following standard museum and NARA guidelines.
- Complete assigned tasks related to exhibit research, object selection, and text editing and formatting as needed.
- Gather data for reporting and develop and create content for social media platforms.
- Apply agency‑wide and site‑specific methods and standards for accessioning and cataloging, including numbering, description, object labeling, and other associated tasks for museum holdings.

- Specialized
Experience:
At least one year of experience at a level equivalent to GS‑6 (for GS‑7 position) or GS‑5 (for GS‑6 position) in museum collection inventory control, recording, and troubleshooting inventory anomalies; protection of objects of historical or cultural significance from environmental hazards; and assisting in cataloging or inventorying objects in museum collections. - Education: One full academic year of related graduate‑level education directly related to the position, OR a combination of education and experience such that the total percentage of experience and education equals 100% at the required grade level.
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation and satisfy all required federal eligibility and fitness requirements.
- A one‑year probationary period may be required.
- Full‑time, permanent appointment at the GS‑6 to GS‑7 pay scale.
- Telework eligible; remote work not permitted.
- No relocation expenses reimbursed.
- Standard federal selection procedures will be followed.
Salary range: $45,582 – $65,846 per year (GS 6–7). Full‑time benefits are available to eligible federal employees; benefits include health, retirement, and other standard federal benefits.
