Job Description
Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel (ACC), the Attorney Supervisor manages a team of attorneys responsible for interpreting and enforcing employment and labor law provisions across the state. The supervisor supports the Wage Claims Adjudication Unit and other policy initiatives of the Labor Commissioner’s Office. In coordination with the Chief Counsel and other ACCs, the supervisor plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work of the legal staff—including attorneys, legal analysts, and support staff—and helps oversee day‑to‑day operations of the Legal Office.
The Attorney Supervisor assists the ACC and ensures direct managerial support and oversight to improve workflow coordination, mitigate errors, and address special or escalated requests that may receive media attention.
Responsibilities- Manage and oversee a team of attorneys, legal analysts, and support staff.
- Interpret and enforce employment and labor law provisions statewide.
- Plan, direct, coordinate, and review work of legal staff.
- Ensure day‑to‑day operations of the Legal Office run efficiently.
- Improve workflow coordination and mitigate errors and oversights.
- Respond to special or escalated requests that may attract media attention.
- Coordinate across program offices and may be redirected to oversee other offices.
- Travel extensively to assigned district offices, by land or air, including overnight stays.
- Work in a hybrid environment with both in‑person and remote duties.
- Utilize state vehicle, laptop computer, printer, cellular phone, and other equipment as needed.

Active membership to the California State Bar
Working ConditionsExtensive travel will be required. The incumbent will work in an office setting and may be required to work irregular hours. The hybrid work environment includes in‑person and remote work consistent with operational needs. The incumbent will sit for long periods of time while in the office and/or while driving to and from field activities. The incumbent will have access to a state vehicle, laptop computer, printer, cellular phone, and other equipment necessary to stay in touch with the assigned field offices and their staff.
