Job Description
The DMSE is the Centra education leader who supervises the scheduling and coordination of clinical rotations for LUCOM medical students at Centra and in the Central Virginia region. The DMSE works closely with LUCOM leadership to ensure medical students receive great clinical experiences. The DMSE also communicates, develops, and implements educational strategies— in collaboration with both internal and external partners— to support Centra’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plans, ensuring a measurable retention of Centra trained students as long‑term employees for Centra.

Responsibilities- Serves as a spokesperson and communicator of the value of education at Centra and how education strategies support Centra’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plans. The Centra Health Board, medical and nursing staff, LUCOM, and the community are important audiences to reach as we become better known as a thriving, learning organization.
- Serves as a liaison to Centra service line leaders to recruit preceptors and to build an education infrastructure for students.
- Encourages preceptors to model interprofessional teamwork.
- Collaborates with the Director of Advanced Practice Professional (APP) education to train, recruit, and retain excellent APP students and fellows for Centra.
- Collaborates with the Director of Student Affairs and the OMESA team to schedule and coordinate student rotations at Centra and in the Central Virginia region, in addition to recruiting preceptors to teach our students.
- Collaborates with LUCOM to provide professional development for clinical preceptors.
- Serves as a liaison between Centra senior leadership and LUCOM.
- Collaborates with the Director of Student Affairs in the management of LUCOM contracts.
- Oversees compliance with Centra policies, accreditation requirements, procedures and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
- Works closely with LUCOM officials to handle professionalism issues that arise among students and preceptors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications- M.D./D.O.
- 5 years’ experience in medical education
- Strong experience in education administration
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Travel is expected to be between 5-10%.
Work EnvironmentThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The setting for this role will include office and healthcare settings. Exposure to controlled temperature environments, both hot and cold, is to be expected.
