If you are a dedicated admissions professional with a minimum of three years of experience, Macalester College invites you to apply for the Assistant Director of Admissions role. This full‑time, exempt position serves as the first and ongoing point of contact for prospective students and represents the College’s academic and co‑curricular programs. The role includes core recruitment and selection responsibilities, as well as content development and student transition programming.
It requires 3-8 weeks of overnight travel each year, typically September–October and March–May, and offers hybrid flexibility for non‑travel weeks.

Responsibilities & Qualifications Recruitment and Travel- Develop and annually reevaluate recruitment strategies for assigned regions.
- Plan and execute high‑school visits, college fairs, off‑campus interviews, and regional and national recruitment events.
- Support yield activities for admitted students.
- Lead campus visit programming for prospective students and families.
- Collaborate with student ambassadors on recruitment initiatives.
- Participate in the admissions selection process and Admissions Committee.
- Practice holistic admissions evaluation.
- Make professional recommendations on admission decisions.
- Collaborate with team partners in evaluation.
- Present Macalester’s academic and co‑curricular programs to prospective students and families.
- Create a welcoming environment for all visitors.
- Assist with special programming for under‑represented students of color, first‑generation students, LGBTQIA+ students, and low‑income students.
- Cultivate relationships with high‑school administrators, counselors, and community‑based organizations.
- Develop written content for publications and web.
- Participate in division‑wide initiatives and strategic planning.
- Support research and data analysis efforts.
- Assist with special projects as determined by the Dean of Admissions.
- Engage in professional development.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong presentation skills for various group sizes.
- Deadline management and ability to multitask.
- Attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft and Google applications.
- Strong understanding of liberal arts education values.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.
- Demonstrated aptitude for counseling students and families.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Understanding of financial aid principles and processes.
- Experience in student recruitment or enrollment management.
- Familiarity with holistic application review.
Full‑time, 12‑month position (38.75 hours per week).
Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM‑4:30 PM, with occasional evening and weekend work.
3-8 weeks of overnight travel annually, primarily September‑October and March‑May. Must be comfortable driving rental cars and flying domestically.
Limited remote work is permitted; primary duties require regular on‑campus presence.
CompensationThe annual salary for this position ranges from $56,485 to $59,053, depending on experience.
UnionThis position is subject to the MAPE Union.
