Parks Maintenance Supervisor I
This position is located at Washington County's south parks maintenance facility ix Bluffs Regional Park in Hastings, Minnesota. Maintenance activities for parks in the southern half of the county and the Historic Courthouse in Stillwater, MN are based out of this facility. The Parks Maintenance Supervisor I is responsible for coordinating and managing all parks maintenance operations, including assessing needs, prioritizing service requests, and inspecting facilities to ensure safety and functionality.
Plan and schedule work, oversee equipment selection and chemical applications, and direct activities such as trail grooming, snow and ice control, irrigation, pruning, and building security. Manage vendor selection and contracts, ensure regulatory compliance, and identify and correct hazards in parks and trails. Collect and analyze data for reports, prepare budgets and annual work plans, and collaborate with other County and Public Works divisions.
Supervise staff, including hiring, scheduling, training, performance management, and guiding teams through operational changes while ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. In addition to the above duties, the Parks Maintenance Supervisor II role provides expanded leadership by coordinating specialized projects with external partners such as Sentence to Serve crews and other public agencies and developing comprehensive building maintenance programs. The position also serves as acting Parks Maintenance Manager when assigned.
This is a supervisory position for a growing group, currently consisting of three (3) full-time maintenance workers and approximately ten (10) seasonal employees. Communication skills, supervisory skills, computer fluency, and the ability to take input and make decisions are all important for this position.
This is not a work from home position.
Selection Technique:
Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top-scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration. Hours / Days: 7:00 am - 3:30pm / Monday – Friday / 40 hours per week. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs. Anticipated Hiring Rate: $34.00 - $46.38 per hour (May be hired at the Parks Maintenance Supervisor II level depending on qualifications)

The Parks Maintenance Supervisor I supervises the work of assigned staff and the operations of the maintenance unit within the Parks Division within the framework of established regulations, policies and Public Works Department strategic plans. This position ensures excellent program and service delivery by working directly with staff, other County divisions and the public and participates in the budget process.
Employment CriteriaMinimum Qualifications:
This position requires a high school diploma, and five years of park maintenance experience, or equivalent; must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Airbrake Endorsement. Must be able to attain a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate and become a Certified Minnesota Tree Inspector and licensed Pesticide Applicator within established timeframe.
