Senior Project Manager - Oncology Clinical Trials

Job Description

This role leads the end-to-end management of oncology clinical trial projects, serving as the primary liaison between funders and internal project teams. The Senior Project Manager coordinates cross-functional efforts to ensure all contracted projects stay on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with standard operating procedures and regulatory expectations. This position also plays a key role in mentoring junior staff and contributing to proposals for new clinical trial contracts.

Responsibilities

* Lead the overall management of oncology clinical trial projects, ensuring all activities align with contract requirements, timelines, and budgets.

* Act as the primary liaison between the funder and internal project teams, communicating project status, risks, and milestones clearly and consistently.

* Support the Senior Director, Clinical Research in clinical trial management activities and strategic planning for ongoing and future trials.

* Review clinical trial contracts, protocols, budgets, and case report forms (CRFs) to ensure completeness, feasibility, and alignment with project objectives.

* Coordinate and oversee the formation and ongoing performance of cross-functional project teams, including Data Management, Regulatory, Monitoring, and Clinical Supplies.

* Ensure all project tasks and deliverables follow established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and applicable guidelines such as Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

* Provide mentoring, coaching, and training to junior staff, including Project Managers, Associate Project Managers, and Clinical Research Associates (CRAs), to support their professional development and performance.

* Collaborate with leadership to develop proposals for new contract bids, including estimating project management time, number of monitors required, and monitoring time for prospective studies.

* Oversee vendor management activities, including selection, oversight, and performance evaluation of external partners supporting clinical trial operations.

* Work closely with data management teams to support data management activities and user acceptance testing (UAT) for clinical trial systems and tools.

* Apply knowledge of clinical trial registration processes to ensure appropriate trial registration and compliance with relevant requirements.

* Leverage experience in contract research organization (CRO) or pharmaceutical environments to enhance operational efficiency and quality in oncology clinical trials.

* Use Microsoft Office and other relevant tools to prepare reports, presentations, timelines, and project documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Skills

* At least 10 years of oncology project management experience, with a strong track record in clinical trial management.

* Demonstrated experience managing clinical trials in oncology, including registration trials.

* Solid understanding of clinical operations and clinical research processes.

* Strong project management skills, including planning, resource allocation, risk management, and budget oversight.

* Hands-on experience with vendor management in a clinical trial setting.

* Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and standard operating procedures for clinical trials.

* Knowledge of data management processes and user acceptance testing (UAT) in clinical research.

* Experience working in a contract research organization (CRO) or pharmaceutical environment.

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, and communication.

* Bachelor's degree required.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

* Master's degree preferred.

* SOCRA certification preferred.

* Experience with clinical trial registration processes.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with funders and cross-functional teams.

* Ability to mentor and train junior staff, including Project Managers, Associate Project Managers, and CRAs.

* Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment and adapt to changing project needs.

* Interest in contributing to improvements in the cancer clinical trials system across public and private sectors.

Work Environment

This position offers a hybrid work schedule, with a mix of on-site and remote work. Remote days vary based on the needs of the project teams, and there is some opportunity to work from home while maintaining close collaboration with colleagues and partners. The role follows normal business working hours. The organization focuses on improving the cancer clinical trials system and collaborates with partners across the health care industry to streamline and promote cancer clinical trials in both public and private sectors, fostering a mission-driven, collaborative, and professional work environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Philadelphia, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $80.00/hr.
